For the good cooks out there!?
What are the few things you just don’t get the hang of in the kitchen even though you are considered a great cook?? Your tragic flaw, even if it is easy for most other people.
Mine is rice. I can’t cook it right to save my life unless it is in a pot of soup with wayyyy more water than needed. I always have to keep adding water and it is still hard.
Another is seafood, I don’t like it, and I don’t like to handle it so I don’t know how to cook it.
Also I am getting old (37!!) and falling apart. I have a broken pinky that never quite healed right, and it aches sometimes, especially when I am peeling potatoes or apples. I know HOW but I just can’t do it much anymore. I can’t switch to the other hand, I can’t use those peeler thingies on anything round (never did get that figured out, use it on carrots and cucumbers) and I simply will NOT invest in an electric gadget that does it for me.
How about you? Culinary achilles heel?
Pastry dough.
I can cook all kinds of meat dishes, fish, lobster, crabs (and crab cakes), veggies, eggs any way you want them, pancakes, waffles, cakes (with Splenda), soups, pasta dishes and even a turkey that will melt in your mouth.
I not only bake bread, but even very dark rye bread and honey wheat rolls.
But pastry dough? Tastes like something of a can of playdough. I’ve tries about 2 dozen recipes: all failures.
